How to Get Fit Fast on Your Florida Beach Vacation

How to Get Fit Fast on Your Florida Beach Vacation

You might not think of your Indian Rocks Beach vacation as a time to start a fitness routine. Vacations are for relaxing, right? Right! But along with all that relaxation comes plenty of opportunities to get active and work toward your fitness goals. The best part is that you can have a lot of fun in the process. How? Here are just a few of the many ways to get fit and stay active during your next Florida Gulf Coast vacation.

Make walking part of your daily vacation routine.

Get out there and walk every single day of your vacation. It really makes a difference and is an easy way to get moving while enjoying all the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. Whether you walk the beach, through town, or through the Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve—just get out there and do it.

Use the free bikes available from your Plumlee Perks.

Don’t forget that your Plumlee Vacation Perks come standard with your Indian Rocks Beach rental, so be sure to take advantage of as many as you can! The use of free bikes is the perfect way to get peddling and get that heart pumping as you see the sights. Just stop by our main Plumlee office to use our bikes for free daily from 10a.m. to 5p.m.

Do yoga at the beach.

Whether you decide to have your own personal yoga session or meet up with others, yoga on the beach is a wonderful way to start or end your day. All you really need is a towel and a water bottle. You can meet up with others at the Indian Rocks Beach access at 22nd Avenue North or at the Indian Shores Town Hall for an indoor yoga session. Details here.

Try a new watersport.

Get out on the water and try something new! Try stand-up paddleboarding, jump on  jet ski, launch a kayak, or parasail over the local waters. Have fun, get wet, and burn some extra calories all at the same time. There are plenty of ways to experience the best of the Gulf of Mexico and Intracoastal Waterway. Squeeze in a HIIT session in your Indian Rocks Beach rental.

You don’t have to leave your Indian Rocks Beach rental before getting in a good workout. A quick high intensity interval training (HIIT) session can be done in 15-20 minutes. It’s hugely effective and you don’t need any equipment. It involves short bursts of really hard work, followed by periods of rest. Perform exercises like running with high knees, burpees, squats and mountain climbers. Do 30 seconds of work, followed by 30 seconds of rest. Repeat four times, then hit the pool to cool off.

Give yourself a swim challenge.

You don’t have to go crazy here. We’re not talking about an Olympic-style event. Challenge yourself to swimming a certain distance every day, and increase it each time. Aim to keep going for the number of laps or set time period, and keep your stroke as strong as possible to really maximize the effort. Whether you get your laps in the Gulf of Mexico or in the pool is totally up to you.

Explore more.

Explore the Florida Gulf Coast towns, beaches, and natural areas as much as you can during your vacation time. Start in Indian Rocks Beach and Indian Shores and then go from there. Redington Shores, Madeira Beach, Clearwater Beach, Tampa Bay and beyond are all within your reach. Where will you go? What will you do?

Enjoy the Florida Gulf Coast seafood.

Getting fit is not just about your activity level. Diet matters too. Even though you’re on vacation and allowed to indulge, try to keep some routine and mindfulness when it comes to your eating. Your biggest advantage here is all the fresh Florida Gulf Coast seafood that’s available to you in the restaurants, fish markets, and what you can make in your own vacation rental kitchen.
