Another weekend; another great free festival in Indian Rocks Beach! This Saturday, April 6 the Beach Art Center and the City of Indian Rocks Beach host the one-day, citywide Beauty and the Beach Festival at the 18th Avenue Beach Access from 11a.m. to 7p.m. and at Kolb Park from 9a.m to 4p.m.
Stroll the festival and peruse everything from paintings, drawings and sculptures to ceramics, glass, wood and handcrafted jewelry. Buy some unique artistic treasures for yourself or purchase some one-of-a-kind gifts for all occasions.
The festival also features a street scale chalk walk modeled after the Italian tradition of street painting. Part
icipating artists are assigned squares in the street in front of the Beach Art Center and fill the space with their own artwork. The artwork can be based from a famous piece or from the artist’s own imagination. You’ll be amazed at the talent and creativity! Cash prizes are awarded to the artists for Best of Show as well as a First, Second and Third place awards. Choose your favorites and see how they compare with the judges’ favorites.
Arts and crafts are not all you’ll find at the Beauty and the Beach Festival. Head over to the beach access area and enjoy kite flying with free kites for the kids (while they last). Festival-goers also enjoy free live music by this year’s featured performer Tailspin. Contest favorites are back again this year, too, with the Little Miss Beauty and the Beach contest and sandcastle-building competitions. Local restaurants are on-hand offering food and drinks for your refreshment. There are also kid-friendly activities for all ages.
