The Best Hidden Gems and Things To Do with the Kids in Indian Rocks Beach

We know families come to vacation in Indian Rocks Beach and Indian Shores first and foremost for the beautiful Gulf of Mexico beaches—which are hidden gems themselves. Beyond the beaches, there are more fun and family-friendly things to do with the kids that you may not know about. That’s what we’re highlighting today. You don’t have to go far from your Indian Rocks Beach vacation rental or Indian Shores condo rental to find some wonderful places for kids and families to enjoy. Here are a few of the best that are right here in town.

Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve

Take the kids for a short stroll on the boardwalk shaded by lush mangroves that leads to views of the Intracoastal Waterway. The Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve is 9.3-acres of wildlife habitat, native vegetation, wetlands with an educational boardwalk and natural park areas. Plan a family picnic, go fishing from the pier, do some bird- watching, and just spend some quiet time in the natural beauty of Florida. Free parking, playground, restrooms, and dog park are here too. Map location here.

Indian Rocks Beach Skate Park

Did you know that Indian Rocks Beach has a skate park? It does! Nestled in at Kolb Park you’ll find a great little place where kids can bring their skateboard, rollerblades, or roller skates and have a dedicated space to let the good times roll. (A $5 permit is required for those ages 17 and under.) Kolb Park also offers a playground, athletic fields, tennis and pickleball courts, basketball court, picnic facilities, and restrooms. This is a fun and family-friendly park for all ages. Map location here.

Seaside Seabird Sanctuary

The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is a must-see in Indian Shores, Florida. You can visit for free, but donations are really appreciated. The sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and eventual release of sick and injured birds of all kinds. It’s the perfect place to bring kids to learn and observe the local feathered wildlife, and the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgable. You can also book a guided tour for families and/or groups, and check out their onsite events. Map location here.

Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf

What is a beach vacation without a few rounds of mini golf? Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf in Indian Shores offers golf and so much more. This pirate-themed course has waterfalls, caves, and all sorts of interesting scenery to navigate during your game of putt putt. You can feed the live gators here, too! They are open 365 days a year. Dress up in your best pirate garb if you really want to fit in, and bring your family over to the course to play a round or two during your Indian Rocks beach vacation. Map location here.
