Ah, romance is in the air; the salty sea air, that is. We're going to pick our top five, but that's only because we're limited on space and time. You, on the other hand, are not! Romantic Gulf Coast adventures abound for those in search of them. We'll get you started with ours, but we'd love to hear your ideas, too. (That's what our comment section is for...).

Without further ado, here are our picks for the Top 5 Most Romantic Things To Do on the Gulf Coast of Florida in no particular order.

Florida Gulf Coast beaches

Walk the Beach

Walking on a beautiful beach hand-in-hand with the one you love is one of the most quintessential acts of romance ever. So simple, yet so profound. Escape the world for a while as you and your sweetie immerse yourselves in the rhythm of the undulating tide, the soft touch of powdery white sand on your feet, and the soothing caress of the warm sea-salt breeze on your skin. Paired with sparkling blue-green waters and panoramic coastal views, you'll want for nothing more.

We know we are a bit biased, but we truly do believe that Indian Rocks Beach and Indian Shores offer some of the best beaches on the Gulf Coast. They are quiet, less crowded and more secluded than some of the other area beach spots, and very pristine. Perfect for a romantic stroll on the beach. Search for shells or just walk the sandy shores for as long as you'd like. Our beaches are lined with palm trees and face due west making for an absolutely spectacular view of the sunset.

Florida Nature Preserve

Explore the Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve

If nature is your thing, accompany your honey to the Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve on a nice day. The Nature Preserve is tucked back off the main drag of Gulf Boulevard, located between 9th and 10th avenues in Indian Rocks Beach. Follow the boardwalk through the 9.3-acre preserve teeming with coastal wildlife, native vegetation and a wetlands ecosystem uniquely its own. Listen as the sounds of nature surround you and be sure to keep your eyes open for the many species of local wildlife that inhabit the preserve.

The Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve offers plenty of park benches for you to stop as you please, observation areas, a fishing pier, comfort areas, picnic facilities, water fountains, a nature center, a dog park, hiking trails and water access. Make a day of it!

The boardwalk leads you to the Intracoastal Waterway where you'll find expansive water views. Be on the lookout for manatees! They enjoy it there, too.

Steak from Guppy's on the Beach in Indian Rocks Beach FL

Reserve a Table for Two

Nothing speaks romance like an intimate table for two at a fabulous local restaurant. No matter what your tastes or preferences, there's something to please every palate here locally. Seafood? Steaks? Both? You want it; we've got it. Think about your love's favorite dish and plan accordingly. Choose the ambiance you desire and make your plans.

Pier 60 Clearwater Beach FL

Stroll the Pier

Call us old-fashioned, but we believe that a stroll on a gulf-front pier is pretty romantic. The creaking of wooden boards, ocean as far as the eye can see, and fishermen patiently awaiting the tug of the line are all part of the experience.

If you prefer a more quaint, historic fishing pier, then Long Pier in Redington Shores is the place for you. This local landmark has an interesting history and promises spectacular views.

If you are looking for more of a local hotspot offering live entertainment, coastal artisans and vendors, and a festival vibe, then Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach is a great option. Sunsets at Pier 60 happen every night from 4-8p.m. and there are plenty of special events that run throughout the year there as well. Be sure to walk to the end of the pier at sunset to see the sun as it sinks into the watery horizon.

Sunset Cruise

Embark on a Sunset Cruise on the Gulf of Mexico

On-the-water Gulf of Mexico adventures abound in Florida. Whether you seek a fishing charter, dolphin watching excursion or pirate ship jaunt, you can find quite a variety of high seas escapades.

For romance though, we'd suggest a sunset cruise. Hubbard's Marina at John's Pass Village in Madeira Beach offers some of Tampa Bay's best bets for cruising the open waters. Their 1.5 hour sunset cruise promises colorful coastal skies, amazing water viewsthey even throw in free adult beverages for your drinking pleasure.

That's our list! Don't forget that we'd like to hear what you'd add to our list of best romantic things to do on Florida's Gulf Coast.

Do you have any upcoming romantic Gulf Coast adventures planned? We hope so!
