Whether you crave strawberries in their purest form picked right off of the vine or in their other equally delicious variations (think  strawberry shortcake, eclairs, pies, cheesecakes, tarts, turnovers, and paired a hundred and one ways with chocolate), you need to mark the the 2015 Florida Strawberry Festival on your calendar this month. You must!

You, your family and your friends (just no pets, please). Gather up your favorite people and make a day or more of it. Be sure to get your tickets early for a discounted rate. You can find discounted Florida Strawberry Festival tickets at Publix grocery stores through March 8. Advance tickets purchased online through February 25 also receive a discounted rate. Hurry, hurry!

There is also royalty to be spotted at the festival. Each year since the festival's inception, a Florida Strawberry Festival Queen has been crowned and this year is no different. Keep an eye out for the queen and her courtthere's junior royalty, too.

In addition to fabulous fresh-picked Florida strawberries, the Florida Strawberry Festival plays host to plenty of other family-friendly events for your entertainment pleasure. For a mere $10 and a small parking fee, festival-goers enjoy free entertainment all day, exhibits, competitions, livestock shows, kids activities, along with a nice variety of arts and crafts vendors. For a few extra dollars, take advantage of the opportunity to see live concerts, experience the Belle City Midway with all its rides, games and other thrilling attractions, and sample some of the best festival fare around. (Please, please, please leave room for some strawberry shortcake. It's the festival's signature dish!)

Headline entertainers for the 2015 festival include Bobby Vinton, Alabama, Scotty McCreery, Mercy Me, Kevin Costner, Ronnie Milsap, Sara Evans, Oakridge Boys, Boyz II Men, Loretta Lynn, John Legend and Reba McEntire, just to name a few. The Florida Strawberry Festival is a harvest celebration of the Sunshine State's historical and agricultural legacy. It's a local and regional event steeped in tradition bringing people together from near and far in celebration of agriculture, commerce, and horticulture along with the volunteer spirit, a community connection, and the bountiful strawberry harvest.

The Florida Strawberry Festival is a little over an hour's drive north and east from Indian Rocks Beach. It makes for a great day trip if you're vacationing on the Gulf Coast during the festival.
