Your Memorial Day Holiday To-Do List for Florida’s Gulf Coast

Memorial Day is almost here and you know what that means: Summer is officially underway! Life is a beach year round here on Florida’s gorgeous Gulf Coast, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t celebrating, too. We are!

What’s happening here this time of year? As usual, a lot!

Here are the highlights in our Memorial Holiday To-Do List for Florida’s Gulf Coast. Make your list and check it twice.

Beach, Baby

Take some time out of your hectic life and spend it on our Gulf beaches. Where you go is up to you, but if you’re really looking to get away from it all for awhile, we’d suggest the less crowded areas of Indian Rocks Beach and Indian Shores. They offer all of the sparkling clear Gulf of Mexico waters and pristine sands you’ve come to expect from a Florida Gulf Coast destination with the added bonus of a family-friendly atmosphere, not as many people, and coastal views as far as the eye can see.

Sunset at Pier 60 Daily Festival

Enjoy an evening out as you watch the sun sink into the horizon and celebrate the best of what the Gulf Coast has to offer. Listen to live music, breathe in the salty air, watch the buskers perform, and stroll the length of Pier 60 as you peruse the coastal vendors along the way. It’s family fun at its best and there’s no admission charge. Yep, free for you, your family and your friends. Make it your Gulf Coast Memorial Day tradition! You can learn more about this local favorite in our previous blog post entitled 10 Things You Should Know About Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach.

Memorial Weekend Party, Gulf-Coast Style

Shephard’s Resort in Clearwater Beach is celebrating with a Memorial Day holiday party all weekend long. Enjoy live performances, a lively nightlife scene and plenty of food and drinks to go around. Get your Shephard’s Beach Resort Memorial Weekend Party tickets here.

Memorial Day Family Fun Fest at the Armed Forces Museum

Monday, May 30, 2016 is the day you’ll want to be at the Armed Forces Museum in Largo for its 8th Annual Memorial Day Family Fun Fest from 10a.m. to 3p.m. Enjoy special events, displays and activities surrounding Memorial Day as you experience history in a fascinating, hands-on way. Be on the lookout for FREE stuff for the kids! Hope to see you there.

Veterans Memorial Park & Museum in Tampa

Not only is it an appropriate choice for the Memorial Day holiday, it’s also home to a Memorial Day Celebration on Sunday, May 29 at 11a.m. and a Memorial Day Remembrance on Monday, May 30 at 9a.m. Honor the day and the fallen heroes who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Visit the Veterans Memorial Park and Museum in Tampa not just on Memorial Day but any day you want a history lesson that won’t soon be forgotten.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

There are plenty of baseball games to enjoy during your stay on the Gulf Coast from Minor League to the Majors. Make a day or evening of it, no matter who you’re rooting for. Visit the MILB’s 2016 schedule for games, tickets, times and special events on Florida’s Gulf Coast. And visit the official site of the Tampa Bay Rays for Major League play. Batter up!

Remember the Sea Turtles

As we’ve discussed in a couple of our previous Plumlee blog posts, sea turtle nesting season began May 1 and runs through the end of October. Keep an eye out for the safety and protection of these lovely aquatic reptiles during this crucial time in their lifecycle. Read more about them in our Sea Turtle Nesting Season on the Gulf Coast post and check out our Cutest Sea Turtle Slideshow Ever.

Gulf Coast Cookout

If you’re staying in a Gulf beach vacation rental, make the most of your amenities while you’re here! Put that vacation rental kitchen to good use and fire up the grill for your own Memorial Day cookout that’s sure to please. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the good food, spectacular views and that laid-back beach vibe that is sure to make your Memorial Day holiday the best one yet.

What’s on your Memorial Day holiday to-do list this year? Whatever you do and wherever you do it, have a safe, enjoyable and meaningful one. Cheers!
