Did you know that on May 27, 2015, the City of Clearwater turns 100 years old? That’s a pretty big deal! In honor of this historic event, Clearwater is celebrating in grand Gulf Coast style.

The party has already started and plans to continue throughout the remainder of 2015. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor of Florida’s Gulf Coast, be sure to come join the celebration. It only happens once in a lifetime!

Clearwater Centennial Celebration

 

The city of Clearwater is celebrating its centennial throughout 2015. There is something for everyone to enjoy during this spectacular celebration. We are planning at least one centennial event each month, several of which have already taken place and drawn record crowds. Don?t worry if you missed them, though, we have plenty more in store.

The beginning of May featured a whirlwind of events with the Old Hickory Golf Tournament at Clearwater Country Club, the Fun ?n Country Concert at Coachman Park, the Taste Fest on Clearwater Beach (which kicked off Clearwater Beach Restaurant Week) and the Relay For Life event also held at Coachman Park.

Finishing out the month is plenty more Clearwater Centennial Celebration fun. On Wednesday, May 20, come see Clearwater Public Works Department employees defend their two-time championship against other municipalities in Pinellas County when they participate in competitions such as back hoe operations, best tasting water and others.

Saturday, May 23, listen to the beautiful sounds of Garden of Grace Ministries? Worship Under the Stars. Several churches in Clearwater are planning musical events and this is the first.

Wednesday, May 27 is going to be a fantastic day! Head on over to Nature?s Food Patch for a free sampling of an historic regional dish, Chicken and Country Ham Pilau, followed by some Orange Pie. That evening, the Clearwater Threshers help celebrate our 100th Birthday with a game at Bright House Field that begins with pregame ceremonies honoring current and former city leaders and end with a fantastic fireworks show. Tickets for this game are buy one, get one free for Clearwater residents.

Saturday, May 30 is the date of the Clearwater Centennial Parade! Beginning at Highland Avenue and Drew Street at 6:30p.m. and ending at Coachman Park with a block party featuring a concert by Caroline Kole and fireworks. Over 60 participants walk, ride and tumble along the 2.3 mile parade route, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, Clearwater Threshers, Clearwater Marine Aquarium and several churches and krewes. Cozi Zeuhlsdorff, star of the Dolphin Tale movies and Disney Channel regular, is the Grand Marshal of the parade. Cozi is available at Coachman Park for autographs and to promote her new album.

There are many other centennial events planned throughout the year, including a special Clearwater Day at the Tampa Bay Rays, Bright House Clearwater Super Boat National Championship, Clearwater Jazz Holiday, TriRock Triathlon, Tampa Bay Times Turkey Trot, Miracle on Cleveland Street, Peace Memorial Church?s Music Through the Decades, the Island Estates Yacht Club Boat Parade and Outback Bowl Beach Day, just to name a few. The city of Clearwater’s signature centennial project is a coffee table book that has been compiled by the father-son team of Dan and Ryan Friese in partnership with the City of Clearwater.

This book features more than 120 pages of Clearwater history.  A combination of vintage and modern scenes show how far Clearwater has come since it became a municipality on May 27, 1915. Take a walk back in time and see how Clearwater has changed in this beautiful 9.5″ x 12.5″ hardbound coffee table book.
